Cool Sites!

Below, you can find links to some websites that I enjoy. Some of them are from people that I admire, some are sites that I like to keep up on, and some are random places in the internet that just need to be shared.

Personal Webpages

  • Trevor Martin is a friend of mine who puts interesting content of all sorts on his webpage.
  • Becky Scheff is a good friend of mine who does artwork comissions. These are showcased on her site.

Interesting Games

  • Hyperbolica is a game by CodeParade. The setting of the game is various non-Euclidean 3-dimensional geometries, and it looks really cool. It also looks like a tool for teaching people about hyperbolic and spherical geometry.
  • Rusty Lake is a game company that makes mysterious point-and-click games. Throughout their games, a complicated story develops, but it is told in metaphors and you are never sure if whether or not what is happening in the game is what actually happens in the story. That, or it's just a really weird story. You can decide for yourself. Recently, they have branched out into other types of games (including VR).
  • Pyre is a game set in a wasteland world in which the myseterious "rites" offer salvation. It feels a bit like a sport game, but I recommend it due to how choices and player-dependent outcomes can have effects on character relationships, and ultimately decide the game's ending.

Artwork

  • Google Deep Dream is a site where you can use Google's AI technology to apply any style (for example, Van Gogh's style, line art, pointilism, etc.) to any image. It is absolutely bonkers, and you can begin producing images for free!
  • r/ImaginaryMindscapes is a reddit site where people share "mindscapes": interesting landscape-like images with a specific feel. The artwork is just incredible, and it's always fun to scroll through the latest posts.
  • Astronomy Picture of the Day is a site which presents a new astronomy picture every day, along with a caption explaining the subject and importance of that photograph. While the site is run under NASA, not all of the images are from NASA. I have a soft spot for images of the cosmos, and this site is a daily feed of such pictures.

Miscellaneous

  • Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Elizer Yudkowski is a Harry Potter fanfiction that asks: What would happen if Harry Potter grew up in a family of scientists? It's extremely funny, interesting, and has a special place in my heart. It's long, but it's good.
  • Seterra is a geography game website. It's fun, and effective.
  • Bored Panda is a site with some really funny articles/compilations.
  • 10 Minute Mail is a site that gives you an email account that lasts ten minutes. It's perfect when you need an email account, but you don't trust whoever you are giving an email to. Just bewarned: you can not access the email after ten minutes.
  • TV Tropes is a compendium of tropes in all media (not just TV).
  • Top Class Actions is a site where you can check if you are involved in (and can thus obtain money from) any ongoing class action lawsuits.
